Yesterday the auction was indoors, good thing since it was miserably cold and windy outdoors. There was a big crowd when we got there, people from all walks of life looking for a bargain, or just a chance to get out and see something or somebody different. February is like that in Iowa, we look for things to do just to get out of the house.
And, yes there was great stuff. Or maybe it just depends on what you are looking for. Great stuff is in the eye of the beholder. I am always on the look out for small items for my found object jewelry and sculptures. Hubby is in search of the perfect tool. It is always fun to see how the sale unfolds. We walk around and inspect tables laden with boxes of junk all jumbled together. Sometimes these are estate sales and sometimes people are just decluttering. You usually have to buy the whole box so you get the junk along with your treasures. Sometimes something that you think is junk will go for lots of money. And sometimes just the opposite. There were several lots of buttons and they all went for over $10. On the other hand, after waiting until 3 in the afternoon I grabbed a baggy of silver plated forks for $1. In order to get the buttons I got a box of crochet cotton thread and some wool. Now I have to figure out what to do with this thread, since I don't crochet.

Oooo, I love auctions! The possibilities of bargains (like a box of silver plated flatware for $1!) make me rabid with excitement!
I have some crochet thread too (and don't crochet doilies). I use it for strings on (price) tags (I have a flea market booth), but also plan to use it wherever I might want to wrap or tangle up something in my art.
Now if you are a folksy crafter, you would use a ball of the thread for a doll's body....
That sounds like much fun. I haven't been able to go to auctions for awhile. I just do more chasing kids than bargain shopping. The upside to this is that less clutter is brought home.=)
